DIY Romantic Candles

My love for candles is undying! Recently, I turned a few glass containers into gorgeous candles. It took me just about an hour to create these. I decided to share this simple DIY candles project with you. So ladies, Valentine’s Day is around the corner and what better way to make it special than creating some romantic candle mood lighting in the comfort of your home.

Supplies: Glass container, Acrylic Paints, Sponges, Wax, Wick, Glue, Scissors, Thread, and Beads [Note: You can buy all the supplies in the form of an assembled kit from my FB page here]

Here we go…

First, clean the outer surface of the glass container with the help of a soft cloth.

Now, apply the acrylic paint onto the sponge surface and wipe off any excess paint. I started with a bright orange paint. Press the sponge against the glass surface without smudging it. Keep repeating until the entire surface is painted.

Let it dry for 2 minutes. Then, use another color which complements the first one (I used red) and paint over the first layer. This creates a beautiful layering effect on the glass. You can use various combinations of colors that compliment or contrast each other. You can also mix some fine glitter power with the paints to add extra glimmer to the candle.

Let the glass dry for 10-15 minutes. In the meanwhile, melt some wax in a steel container.

After the glass has dried, attach a wick inside it with the help of industrial glue. Now, pour the melted wax in the container and let it dry for 60 minutes. You can also add essential oils to lend fragrance to the wax. This will make scented candles for you.

I have added extra embellishments using ceramic beads and thread. You can use anything that you like or leave it as it is. The layer of colors create a beautiful impact in the candle light.

What are you waiting for? Make a couple of these candles for a romantic night. These will also make a great housewarming present. Share your experiences in the comments below. Happy Creating!!

  1. I really love your website.. Great colors & theme. Did you build this website yourself? Please reply back as I’m looking to create my own personal site and want to know where you got this from or just what the theme is called. Thanks!
