So the festival of Rakshabandhan is really close and I know you all must be really excited to celebrate it with you families. Why not add more fun to the festivities? You can teach your kids to make rakhis this year or make some yourself.
I am going to show you how to make two types of rakhis – beaded and with felt.
Supplies – Beads, Multi-string thread, Felt, Ribbon and Fabric Glue
So, let’s start with the beaded rakhi first. I am using a red thread with four strings.
Tie a knot at where you want your beaded design to start, leaving about 4-5 inches of thread to tie the knot.
Then, split the thread into two equal halves and add one small white bead to each.
After this, add a bigger red bead to all the four strings.
Again split the strings and one white bead and one green bead to each half.
Add one bigger red bead and repeat till you have added the last two white beads at the end.
Tie a tight knot at the end sealing the design of the rakhi. Cut the thread to an appropriate length and the rakhi is done. You can use various color combinations with these.
The second rakhi is a felt rakhi for kids. I have chosen a flower-shaped felt piece for this. You can choose whatever you like.
So, place a small circular felt piece on top of the felt flower. Add a bead to the top and stitch it with the help of thread and needle.
Now, with the help of fabric glue, just paste this assembly on a thin ribbon and it’s done.
I hope you will enjoy making these rakhis with your kids over the weekend. Happy Rakshabandhan to you all! and Happy Creating!! 🙂
