The festival of lights, Diwali, is just around the corner. It’s the time for sweets, gifts, firecrackers, lights, candles, diyas, and lots and lots of fun. It really is a magical experience, isn’t it? To make this Diwali even more special, today, I have a project that you can make yourself this weekend and brighten your home. It’s a simple, colorful paper lantern (also called Kandil in India).
Supplies: Colorful kite papers (5.5” squares), Tissue Papers, Cardstock paper strips (two 12-inch long and two 6-inch long), Glue, Scissors
Let’s get started!
First of all, fold the 12-inch long cardstock strips to make them into circular loops.
Then paste two 6-inch strips on both the loops to make the frame of the lantern.
After this, attach a ribbon to make a loop on the top of the lantern.
Then, cut the tissue paper into long strips that are half-inch wide.
On the bottom loop of the lantern, paste the strips of tissue paper around the circular loop. I have used two colors of tissue paper strips to do the same.
To make the body of the lantern, fold the square sheets of kite papers diagonally and paste them to hold the shape. I’ve also added a small diagonal piece of paper to decorate the assembly.
Now, paste these assemblies on the frame of the lantern, covering the open space between them. I’ve used 8 pieces to cover the lantern.
The lantern is ready!! Add it to a bulb or lamp and enjoy the colorful ambiance!
